Can I have a taste?
Ask for a convenient time to taste the wares. Make sure to taste frostings as well as favorite cake flavors, and ask for the cost per slice.
Can I see your portfolio?
You'll want to see that baker's actual work to get an idea of what you might receive for your wedding.
What additional charges might I incur?
Get in the habit of asking this question, to be as informed about the services you are purchasing as possible. Ask for a breakdown of charges that might include fillings, complex decorations, delivery or fresh flowers, and use of cake plates and columns. Get a written proposal with each cost itemized.
Who will decorate the cake with fresh or silk flowers?
Don't assume that the florist or baker will automatically do this, or that either will do it for free. Some bakers will purchase the flowers and decorate it themselves. In other cases, the florist is the one in charge. Ask who will do it, and find out when the materials need to be available at the reception site for assembly.
