What should I ask? Flowers

A few lists and photos can make the initial meeting more productive. Here are some questions you'll need to ask and things you'll need to know:

Can I have a list of references?
Just like good reporters always check their sources, so should a good bride and groom. If you've been to a wedding with flowers you adore, ask the couple about their florist. Ask friends and family for referrals of people who have designed wedding flowers they liked.

Have you been to my ceremony or reception site?
If so, he or she may have photos of what he's done there and know how to work in the space. Can you see samples of his work? Real bouquets, rather than photos, will give you the best sense of his work.

What additional charges can I expect?
There may be a delivery or setup fee, especially if your arrangements are complex or if the site is a far from their shop. Also, the florist might be able to provide decorations that the site can't, such as aisle runners, trellises or potted plants, but possibly at an additional expense. Ask also if adding additional items at the last minute (such as boutonnieres or centerpieces) will incur a rush fee.

How many weddings do you do in a day?
You'll be able to gauge, based on the size of the organization, if the florist can handle the number of weddings for which it contracts.

Is my date available?
If it is, it may be necessary to give a deposit to secure the date. Ask for a price proposal first.

Can I see photographs of your past work?
You want to see how skilled this florist is, not just a laminated booklet with arrangements they may or may not be able to recreate. You might also consider visiting a wedding during setup for an idea of the company's professionalism.

What time will you be at my ceremony site or reception site?
Confirm this time throughout the process. If the flowers will sit outside for an extended period of time, find out from your site if there are refrigeration capabilities.

What happens if the flowers I select aren't available?
It happens. Ask how substitutions are handled.
