Instant expert: Music
Pick an appropriate style.
Is the wedding formal or informal? Contemporary or traditional? A full-piece orchestra would seem a bit lavish for an informal reception with a casual style. Aim for music that suits the style or theme of the wedding.
Consider your guests.
Pleasing every guest is next to impossible, however, choosing music that fits your guests' tastes will make for a lively, more memorable wedding. As for the reception, determine whether the crowd will be older or younger, and what you expect of them. If your goal is to have a full dance floor, choose music that will make them want to dance.
Finding the performer
Ask around. Everyone - from your wedding planner to your ceremony site and reception hall - will have a list of performers you can call. Don't forget local music colleges and friends who can offer recommendations.
Follow up
Keep in touch with your entertainment after you sign the contract. Let them know of any wedding songs you may have forgotten to mention, or any aspects of the reception that may have changed. Confirm the dates and time - It's better to be certain your entertainment is arriving, than to wait in silence for it to arrive.
