Mind your manners: Bridal showers
A friend wants to throw you a shower - what do you do?
Graciously accept. If several friends are throwing showers for you, ask them to collaborate in the costs and planning of the events. If you do have more than one shower, make sure each has a separate guest list so that attending the events (and purchasing gifts for each) does not become a burden.
When do you send thank you notes?
As soon as possible. At the shower, create a game in which each participant fills out an envelope with her address, and her name is selected from a hat. When it is time to send out your thank you notes, your envelopes will already be addressed, cutting out half the work involved.
My significant other and I have lived with each other for many years and we don't need anything. Should we still have a shower?
If friends insist on throwing a shower, suggest a theme, such as a recipe shower to which friends can bring inexpensive kitchen items that are always useful, along with favorite recipes you can use in your new married life. Holiday decorations or gift cards for nights out at the movies or a favorite restaurant are another idea.
