The truth about tuxedos

Thousands of men ranging from tots to adults will don tuxedos in the coming year for weddings, proms and awards shows. However, tuxedos have acquired an unfair reputation over the years as being expensive and uncomfortable, among other things. Tuxedo America Group would like to dispel some of the old myths about formalwear.

False. According to the Tuxedo America Group, an association of formalwear retailers throughout the United States and Canada, tuxedos are in the same price range as the average men's suit. Quality tuxedos can be purchased for as little as $250, making them an affordable luxury.

False. Many tuxedos are made with high-quality wool fabric, making them far more comfortable than tuxedos of years past. The myth that tuxedos are stiff and "stand on their own" is unfounded. The many new fabrics being used to make tuxedos allow for greater comfort than those of the past.

False. Formalwear is now more fashionable than ever. Simply put, these are not "your father's tuxedos." By adding a hat, selecting a color or a style of tie that is a variation on standard tuxedos, anyone can easily customize a tuxedo to make it reflect your own unique style.

False. Contrary to what some might think, there is value in owning a tuxedo. It can simplify your life when it comes to special occasions, and allows men to surprise their dates/spouses on special occasions such as anniversaries, big events and holiday parties.
